Boston – May 15, 2023 – High schools will be able to offer their students an even wider array of courses for the 2023-24 school year thanks to new selections from VHS Learning. The nonprofit has added more offerings to its over 300 unique high school courses, which range from core subjects and unique electives to Advanced Placement® and Honors options. Course enrollment for fall 2023 opened May 4.

VHS Learning collaborates with schools of all types — urban, rural, public, and private — to expand their programs of study and offer instructor-led courses that might not otherwise be available locally. The program features small class sizes, certified teachers, interactive learning, and flexible scheduling with coursework that is accessible anywhere students have internet access. Adding VHS Learning courses is quick and easy, as VHS Learning provides the course instructors and curriculum, as well as its team of helpful online learning experts. Schools work with their students to schedule VHS Learning courses into their standard school day, just like any other course offered at the school.

This fall, VHS Learning will offer courses in a variety of subjects, ranging from STEM to Humanities to Credit Recovery courses and more. New course additions will include Computer Science and Technology courses such as IT Fundamentals and Business courses such as Accounting.

The IT Fundamentals course will prepare students to pass the CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) Exam FC0-U61. Course participants will learn about IT infrastructure, software development, and database use. They will also explore the programming languages Python and Java. Students will learn to produce code that can convert hexadecimals or binary numbers to decimals, create a database to query information and explore encryption techniques.

Aligned with the National Business Education Association’s (NBEA) accounting standards, the Accounting course is designed to introduce students to various careers in the accounting profession. Course participants will gain a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Through simulations, assignments, spreadsheets, and QuickBooks Online, they will analyze transactions and complete the accounting cycle, all while creating and analyzing financial statements. In addition, they will learn how to read an annual report and learn about multistep procedures needed for calculating depreciation, payroll taxes, and financial ratios.

“Accounting is one of our most-requested courses and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this course to students,” said President & CEO of VHS Learning Carol DeFuria. “Students will connect their learning to real world experiences through review of actual financial statements from Fortune 500 companies. These new courses are a great addition to our extensive course catalog, and we are looking forward to having students experience and enjoy these courses.”
