“Many of our students have expressed an interest in Business courses, and more specifically, courses in Accounting, and we are thrilled to be able to offer our new Accounting course for them next year,” said Carol DeFuria, President & CEO of VHS Learning. “The AP® Seminar course was developed as part of the College Board’s response to postsecondary educators’ wish for incoming freshmen with greater proficiency in critical thinking and communication.”

The yearlong AP® Seminar course is the first part of the College Board’s new AP Capstone Diploma™ program, which is designed to develop students’ critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills. During the course, students in grades 10-12 will engage in cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues. Course participants will also write research-based essays, deliver dynamic presentations, and study a variety of topics and subject areas.

The Accounting course is a 33-week course in which students will learn how to analyze, assemble, and process basic financial statements to determine the value of assets, liabilities, and owner’s equity. The course will enable students to communicate essential information about the financial operations of both service and merchandising businesses.

VHS Learning has also continued its commitment to expand access to computer science education with new courses including Mobile App Development and Information Technology Fundamentals. In the 15-week Mobile App Development course, students will learn how to design and code iPhone and Android apps for a variety of uses including education, sports, entertainment, health or medicine, and social networking.

In the 15-week Information Technology Fundamentals course, students will learn IT concepts and terminology, applications and software, software development, database fundamentals, and essential security concepts. Those who successfully complete the Information Technology Fundamentals course will be eligible to take the CompTIA IT Fundamental (ITF+) certification exam.
