STEM ADVANCED COURSEWORK OPPORTUNITY FOR MA SCHOOLS!
Through the STEM Advanced Placement® Access Expansion Opportunity, schools in Massachusetts can increase their capacity to offer advanced coursework that will equip students with the skills and competencies they need to pursue postsecondary education and, ultimately, go on to STEM professions vital to the Massachusetts economy. The MA DESE is partnering with nonprofit VHS Learning to offer the following online courses FREE through this exciting opportunity! Responsibilities:
- Assign an on site coordinator to recruit, enroll and monitor student progress
- Assign an AP® coordinator
- Assign AP® proctors
- Award credit on local transcripts

For those districts which elect to offer AP Computer Science A or AP Computer Science Principles through VHS learning, they may select any of the following summer PD opportunities:
- Teacher PD: one high school teacher to attend a free summer workshop on Exploring Computer Science, Computational Thinking and Problem Solving, AP Computer Science Principles, or AP Computer Science A. Included with this summer workshop is a $1,000 stipend for the teacher. Four additional schoolyear 1-day sessions are also included (without a stipend).
- District CS Visioning: the district may create a district team to attend a summer SCRIPT workshop during which the district team will develop a vision for CS education within their district and create goals and implementation plan.
- Counselor PD: district high school counselors may attend a summer CS for Counselors workshop in which they learn more about computer science and why it is an important content area for all students for their future careers.
- Administrator PD: district administrators may attend a summer CS for Administrators workshop in which will learn more about computer science and how to facilitate implementation of CS coursework in all of their schools.
